Privacy Notice

Gaelg AI is a research platform developed at the University of Sheffield providing Manx Gaelic language technology tools. This notice explains what happens to data you submit when using these tools.

How data is used

Submitted text and audio is sent to our server to be processed solely to generate the requested output (synthesised speech, transcription, or translation). We do not store, log, or retain your input data or the outputs generated beyond the duration of your session. We do not use your data to train or fine-tune models, and we do not share it with third parties. Our application log records only that a request happened and how long the text was — never the text or audio itself — and we keep a daily total of how many requests each tool received, which contains no user content.

Server logs

Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs so we can keep the service secure and working. Each entry records:

• the IP address of the device making the request;
• the date and time of the request;
• the page or tool endpoint requested, and whether it succeeded;
• the referring page and your browser's user-agent string.

These logs never contain the text or audio you submit. They are kept for up to 52 days and are then deleted automatically. Before a log is deleted we derive anonymous summary statistics from it — a daily count of requests per country, containing no IP addresses or other identifying details — and we keep those summaries indefinitely to understand where the platform is being used. We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and available and in reporting on its reach as a research project; the logs are not used to profile or track individual visitors.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking services. Aside from the server access logs described above, nothing about your visit is recorded, and no data about you is sent to any third party.
